Video Diary Part 9: Notation
On my trips collecting sound from outside the studio I came upon the question "How shall I write the notation of my audible art, which consists of all kinds of (common) music as well as of electronic excesses and sounds of nature and of the world of technical things?" This video is my first approach of finding an answer.
I have learnt to know how a musical composition sounds only from its written score even without having ever listened to it.
I have learnt to write a score, to change a score, to set up a score according to what I want the piece to sound like without needing anyone to play it.
I have learnt this, it has been a helpful skill - as long as music is concerned, which can be written in more or less common notations.
I don´t compose/produce music of that kind anymore. Perhaps I don´t compose music at all - let me call it "audible art" then.
And I miss the instruments, the techniques of composing, which are based on writing, on writing scores.
